I took an unexpected and beautiful trip to Scotland. I had just wrapped the international premiere of a documentary I helped film, Trade Secret, which screened at the Sheffield Documentary Festival.
A few weeks earlier, a friend mentioned that flying in and out of Edinburgh (from Toronto) was a more affordable option than Manchester or London. I followed that advice — and after the whirlwind of the festival, I found myself in a bit of a daze, hopping on a train to Edinburgh, picking up a car, and setting off on a 900km road trip through the Scottish countryside.
What followed was two days of lots of fog, some intense rain, car camping, climbing coastal cliffs, and wandering through grassy pastures alongside some curious sheep. The Isle of Skye left me with a deeper appreciation for rugged coastlines and a longing to return in the future.
